Trick or treat

Thanks to Jon C for sending in this article from the online version of The Daily Telegraph about the recent rise in so-called sextortion cases.

As the article says, these cases involve the intended victim being approached online by an attractive young woman who engages in explicit conversation until the victim is caught on camera performing a sex act.

According to The Telegraph, a treat is then in store.

Learn English

Or at least learn the English way: do as I say and not as I do.

A recent report has called on immigrants to improve their proficiency in English.

Sajid Javid, the Communities Secretary, released a statement welcoming the Casey Review into the integration of recent migrants which warned of the 'lower levels of English language proficiency' among some communities.

Most Texans are gay

Well that's what the Texas Republican Party is saying in its latest party platform.

In fact, it goes further than that.

It says that, as well as a behaviour shared by the majority of Texans, homosexuality 'has been ordained by God in the Bible' and recognised 'by our nations (sic) founders'.

The Republican Party of Texas
However, the next few sentences leave us in no doubt about the GOP's true beliefs.

Completely Dottie

I agree with Jon C.

I think it's reasonable to expect that someone who claims to have spent over 25 years carefully dotting her 'i's and crossing her 't's should be more than capable of checking her newspaper ad in the Palo Alto Daily Post equally carefully before it went to print.

Mind your language

Calls are being made for certain people at the Home Office to be deported after it published this howler on its web site last Thursday.

Can't see it? Try this.

Bested

On a large billboard, the University of South Dakota proves it's the best.

The best at what, exactly?

Apparently, Tena Haraldson, Director of marketing communications and media relations for the university is quoted as saying, 'It happens.'

Though I suspect that's not quite what she said.

Full of beens

Here we go again.

Taken from an article about the importance of proofreading.

Yet...

Better get that root file fixed. Whatever that means.

Well, I suppose it's reassuring...

...that you're not going to get just a mouthful of holes.

Desperately seeking it

Thanks to Ann F we can enjoy the gaffe on the front cover of Monday's Daily Express.

It's over on the right if you're having trouble spotting it.

That's the one. Just across from the dyslexia headline.

T Party candidate

Senator Rand Paul, as part of his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, has said that he would like to abolish the Department of Education.

Probably not a wise move, Rand.

Head lines

When you're reporting about a country that continues to punish people regularly by beheading them, you need to be very wary of how Auto Correct might alter your headline.

De-stress signal

The Malaysian Ministry of Tourism was being derided the other week for publishing this advert featuring a stress ball with text printed on it that was supposed to say, 'Don't Be Stressed. Come and De-stress in Malaysia.'

But it didn't.

A bit of a stress balls up.

Unless Malaysia is home to a growing industry in shabby chic production.

Class act

It wasn't until around half of the 600 graduation medals had been presented to students of Fremont High School in Ogden, Utah, that someone noticed something was wrong.

Somewhere in Ogden there's a red-faced ex-pat Welsh engraver keeping a low profile.
